Highgate School – United Kingdom
This important Private School has progressively expanded and improved its teaching and support facilities over the past 30 years. The Garner Building, located on the island site in the centre of Highgate Village, a conservation area was built to the highest material standards with maximum visibility to the village street scene, comprising 7 classrooms, a staff tutorial, a teaching workshop and a computer classroom. A quiet courtyard formed at the rear is suitably landscaped for breaks between lessons. Later works within the main school complex comprised additional administrative offices and the conversion of an external undercroft to a modern exhibition/ parent meeting space. The school sports facilities and older victorian premises are located within a 5 minute walk from the main school. We refurbished the school reflectory and kitchen, the sports pavilion and the olympic swimming pool whilst adding a large indoor gymnasium. These facilities also serve the outdoor playing fields of rugby and football in the winter and cricket and hockey in the summer. With the change from a boarding school to a day school, dormitory buildings were refurbished as apartments for teaching staff as well as a Pre- Prep and Preparatory School. Thus the school now intakes children from 3 to 17 years old.
